About Teton Log Home Craftsmen
Jackson Hole has some of the finest log homes in the American West and some of the hardest conditions for maintaining them. Yet when we started, most contractors offering "log home services" were general painters who'd stain anything, or companies driving up from Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City.
Why Log Homes Are Different
A log home is a different structural system from stick-frame construction, with its own vulnerabilities and maintenance requirements. The logs expand and contract with moisture. The chinking must flex without failing. The finishes must breathe while repelling water.
A log home treated like painted siding lasts three years. One treated as a living structure lasts decades.
That shapes our material choices, our techniques, and the advice we give homeowners.
Our Approach to Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole's environment defines our craft. We've adapted our processes for:
High-Altitude UV Exposure
At 6,200+ feet, the sun here is intense. Standard exterior stains lose their binders to UV degradation faster at elevation. We specify mountain-grade formulations with enhanced UV resistance and apply them in two-coat systems for maximum protection.
Extreme Thermal Cycling
Temperature swings of 40°F in a single day aren't unusual here. The chinking between your logs must accommodate that movement without cracking. We use premium flexible chinking systems rated for the temperature extremes of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
Remote & Challenging Access
Many of the valley's finest log homes sit on steep terrain, at the end of miles of dirt road, or in locations where standard equipment won't reach. We've invested in portable equipment and specialized access solutions to reach properties that other contractors decline.
Luxury Market Expectations
With a median home price exceeding $2.5 million, Jackson Hole demands a level of craftsmanship and professionalism that matches the investment. Our clients expect and receive white-glove service, detailed documentation, and results that enhance property values.
What We Believe
Preservation
We restore rather than replace when possible. A hand-hewn log from the 1970s has character and quality that modern milling can't match. Our goal is to preserve that heritage while updating the protection.
Education
We teach you what your home needs. Every assessment includes a walk-through where we explain what we see, what it means, and what your options are, even if that means doing nothing right now.
Prevention
We emphasize maintenance programs and proactive care that catch issues before they become expensive problems. A $500 touch-up today prevents a $5,000 repair next year.
Local Focus
We serve this valley and the homes in it. That means staying small enough to know every client and every property.
Our Work in the Community
We've worked on some of Jackson Hole's most significant properties:
- Historic dude ranch lodges dating to the 1920s
- Contemporary timber frame estates in 3 Creek Ranch and Shooting Star
- Remote wilderness retreats accessible only by snowmobile in winter
- Working ranches that balance heritage preservation with modern functionality
Every project teaches us something new about this valley, its climate, and its architecture.
